Our mission is to launch the careers of cinema’s next generation of screenwriters by holding the most prestigious competition in North America and the world. Our goal is to connect emerging talent with the film industry’s movers and shakers so that they can get their scripts into production. We believe that we have created a vehicle that will infuse new energy into filmmaking while also creating opportunities for incredible new talent.

We are a team of Canadian artists and industry professionals who are passionate about filmmaking and about nurturing, developing, and supporting the next generation of filmmakers and screenwriters from Toronto and around the world.

We are convinced that our Toronto International Screenwriting Competition will bridge the gap between emerging artists and the talent agents and managers who will ultimately introduce them to the producers and studio executives in both Canada and the US who will get their movies made. We are also eager – and able – to introduce these artists to producers and production teams that call Toronto their home.

We love all kinds of scripts and stories – from studio blockbusters to art house fare! No two paths are the same and no two stories are alike. We accept scripts from all over the world, not just the US and Canada and from artists of all shapes and sizes, colors and ethnicities, sexes and sexual orientations.

Our city has a long history of nurturing and showcasing the most talented filmmakers in the entertainment industry. We now want to give screenwriters the same level of exposure. We encourage writers to work on studio films as well as high-end independents. We hope to inspire, support, and develop writers at all levels to make great films that leave others touched, moved and inspired.

The bottom line is that we support the arts, not only locally, but around the world. Our aim is to create a screenwriting festival that will inspire generations of aspiring writers and filmmakers in all genres to tell great stories in the US, Canada, and abroad.

Our aim is to open doors for aspiring screenwriters.

"One of the UK's top film festivals to know about" - London METRO
"A top ten event" - Het Parool
"Culture Calendar" - VOGUE Nederland
"Amsterdam hosts a great cinema event" - iAmsterdam

Inspired by the idea of a cultural revival, we recognize that the digital revolution creates the conditions for a New Renaissance, opening a door for a different set of stories to be told.

OUR MISSION

Film is a unique medium, and the New Renaissance Film Festival’s mission is to support and champion the best upcoming filmmakers and screenwriters in this new era, to fulfill their dream in telling their stories.

We achieve this by:

(1) actively finding new gems and discovering excellent stories that move us, challenge us and above all inspire us;
(2) promoting talented filmmakers and screenwriters on our social media, with initiatives such as Film of the Week, interviews, and panel discussions during our festivals in London and Amsterdam;
(3) being open to a diversity of different voices and points of view;
(4) providing screenwriters, directors and producers with top industry judges, professional masterclasses and expert script analysis and development to enable them to achieve success;
(5) hosting award-winning films on our pay-per-view distribution platform which benefits the filmmakers; and
(6) attracting sponsors who are passionate about indie film and can help us to nurture the artists we showcase.
ONE OF THE TOP UK FILM FESTIVALS TO KNOW ABOUT!

NRFF was featured recently in the London METRO’s list of TOP UK FILM FESTIVALS, alongside Raindance and Aesthetica. Our top industry judges from the UK and USA enable us to keep standards consistently high.

As of September 2016, NRFF is ranked in the top 20 best reviewed film festivals on FilmFreeway. This platform serves more than 5,000 film festivals around the world. What makes this special is that the ranking (currently #14) is determined by reviews from the filmmakers and screenwriters who have participated in our festival.

A FESTIVAL FOR INSPIRING ARTISTS, STORIES AND STORYTELLERS

This three-day festival is organized by JAN HENDRIK VERSTRATEN and MASSIMO BARBATO who are themselves filmmakers and writers. They believe at the heart of every great film is a great story, one that will inspire an audience and hopefully help to shape culture in a positive way.

NRFF London has several categories for UK and International filmmakers and screenwriters, but very close to our hearts is the YOUNG TALENT AWARD. This is a special award for screenwriting and for short films that will be presented to young talent between the ages of 18-24.

We feel it is important to give those starting out in film a chance to discover their own unique voice and vision, as an artist, and to communicate with a larger audience.

NRFF LONDON 2017

2018 will be our third year in London, a city known for its diversity and innovation in the creative arts. We will screen around 120 narrative shorts, documentaries, animations and music videos over the course of the festival, finishing with an AWARDS CEREMONY.
Running alongside the festival will be a SCREENWRITING COMPETITION and a series of MASTERCLASSES by film industry experts, a filmmaker's PANEL DISCUSSION, Filmmaker Q&A's, and other networking opportunities.

Kairos Prize for Spiritually Uplifting Screenplays
Final Deadline

$75
Winners Notified:
Jan 13, 2018
Established by MOVIEGUIDE® in 2005, the primary purpose of the KAIROS PRIZE is to further the influence of moral and spiritual values within the film and television industries. Seeking to promote a spiritually uplifting, redemptive worldview, the prize was founded to inspire first-time and beginning screenwriters to produce compelling, entertaining, spiritually uplifting scripts that result in a greater increase in either man’s love or understanding of God.

Since its inception in 2005, the Kairos Prize for Spiritually Uplifting Screenplays has given a voice to new and beginning screenwriters worldwide who endeavor to create stories that are compelling, entertaining and spiritually uplifting.

Since its inaugural year in 2006, the Kairos Prize has helped to open doors for its winners as they have gone on to sign with top agencies and have their scripts optioned and produced. The prize, now in its 12th season, has witnessed several winning scripts head into production. 2012 alone saw the completion of principal photography for 2 previous winners… both are set for release by year’s end. Coupled with the fact that another one is currently in the final stages of pre-production and 2 others are on the same path, the Kairos Prize is quickly becoming one of the most successful screenwriting competitions (faith-based or secular) with an exceedingly high winner to production ratio. The future of the Kairos Prize is bright as we continue in our efforts to bring scripts to Hollywood that result in a greater increase in either man’s love or understanding of God.
