Our mission is to launch the careers of cinema’s next generation of screenwriters by holding the most prestigious competition in North America and the world. Our goal is to connect emerging talent with the film industry’s movers and shakers so that they can get their scripts into production. We believe that we have created a vehicle that will infuse new energy into filmmaking while also creating opportunities for incredible new talent.

We are a team of Canadian artists and industry professionals who are passionate about filmmaking and about nurturing, developing, and supporting the next generation of filmmakers and screenwriters from Toronto and around the world.

We are convinced that our Toronto International Screenwriting Competition will bridge the gap between emerging artists and the talent agents and managers who will ultimately introduce them to the producers and studio executives in both Canada and the US who will get their movies made. We are also eager – and able – to introduce these artists to producers and production teams that call Toronto their home.

We love all kinds of scripts and stories – from studio blockbusters to art house fare! No two paths are the same and no two stories are alike. We accept scripts from all over the world, not just the US and Canada and from artists of all shapes and sizes, colors and ethnicities, sexes and sexual orientations.

Our city has a long history of nurturing and showcasing the most talented filmmakers in the entertainment industry. We now want to give screenwriters the same level of exposure. We encourage writers to work on studio films as well as high-end independents. We hope to inspire, support, and develop writers at all levels to make great films that leave others touched, moved and inspired.

The bottom line is that we support the arts, not only locally, but around the world. Our aim is to create a screenwriting festival that will inspire generations of aspiring writers and filmmakers in all genres to tell great stories in the US, Canada, and abroad.

Return of the Fiction Podcast Script Competition
We’re thrilled for the second year of our Fiction Podcast Script Competition, which leverages our legacy of championing storytelling to launch writers into the emerging world of podcasts. We look forward to connecting audiences with incredible new stories, as well as connecting writers with a medium that offers incredible access to audiences and limitless opportunities to launch new stories. Creating a Fiction Podcast Script isn’t about starting from scratch. If you have a play, teleplay or screenplay, you’re already almost there! Take the time to tweak it for this new medium. Whether you submit with us or not, getting your script ready for this space is only going to help your career.

A Handcrafted Competition
Though AFF is one of the largest and most respected screenplay competitions, every entrant receives personalized attention and multiple reads throughout the process. All entrants receive FREE “Reader Comments” which are a brief, overall summary of their notes. As an added bonus, for Second Rounders (the top 15-20% in each category) and above, entrants receive further comments from 2-3 readers. AFF goes the extra mile to send both postal mail and e-mail notifications to ensure everyone knows their placement in the competition. Finally, Second Rounders may also find a personalized, handwritten note in their notification letter from the Screenplay Competition Director!

You’ll Get Back Way More Than You Bargained For
Not only do all entrants receive registration discounts, but you get larger discounts when you place in the competition. Unlike other screenplay competitions, your experience with AFF doesn’t end after making the first cut. Second Rounders, Semifinalists, and Finalists attend exclusive panels, intimate roundtable discussions, script reading workshops, and are afforded special access to industry professionals. 2017 Second Rounders and above attended workshops such as: the First Ten Pages with Lindsay Doran, which included Lindsay reading the actual scripts of Second Rounders and workshopping them in front of a live audience, National Academy of Sciences workshop and brunch, how to find representation, demystifying the development process, and how successful alumni from the competition made the most of their placement.

2017 Semifinalists and Finalists had the opportunity to meet with agents, managers, and executives, and participate in our Script Reading Workshops where their scripts were read aloud and workshopped in a personalized setting during the Conference. Furthermore, Semifinalists and Finalists’ loglines and contact information are also included in the annual Producer’s Book, distributed to all AFF panelists as well as over 400 agents, managers, producers, and other industry professionals.

At the Semifinalist level and above, judges—including professional writers and representatives from major studios and production companies—actively seek scripts and talent. In past years, these judges have included representatives from Showtime, Circle of Confusion, Stage 13, Seven Bucks Productions, Skybound Entertainment, Oasis Media Group, Mosaic Media, AMC, ABC Studios, Paradigm Agency, Di Bonaventura Pictures, Kopelson Entertainment, Nickelodeon, Escape Artists at Sony, Sony Pictures Animation, Washington Square Arts, Fourth Floor Productions, Haven Entertainment, APA, CAA, WME, DreamWorks, and Pixar among others.

Signing Deals and Launching Projects
AFF’s Screenplay Competition is one of the most acclaimed contests within the industry for establishing the careers of up-and-coming writers. Many past competition entrants have signed with major agencies and have had their scripts optioned, acquired, and produced by signatory production companies. Most recently, Henry Jones, 2016 winner of the Drama, Sci-Fi, and Enderby awards, had his script Static optioned immediately following the Awards Luncheon. Wes Brown, 2014 winner of the AMC One-Hour Pilot Award, was hired as a staff writer for AMC; Troy Miller, the 2013 winner of the Horror Screenplay Award, had his winning script optioned by Frank Darabont’s Darkwoods Productions; at the 2014 Festival, AFF presented the world premiere of Dawn Patrol, a film produced from a 2008 Finalist script written by Rachel Long and Brian Pittman that was acquired by Enderby Entertainment; and Amy Aniobi, 2011 Semifinalist, has been hired to write for HBO’s Silicon Valley.

The Filmmatic Screenplay Awards were created to locate and expose up-and-coming screenwriters, as well as to empower and educate those talented writers still waiting for their invitation to the mainstream industry.

NRFF was featured recently in the London METRO’s list of TOP UK FILM FESTIVALS, alongside Raindance and Aesthetica. Our top industry judges from the UK and USA enable us to keep standards consistently high.

As of September 2016, NRFF is ranked in the top 20 best reviewed film festivals on FilmFreeway. This platform serves more than 5,000 film festivals around the world. What makes this special is that the ranking (currently #14) is determined by reviews from the filmmakers and screenwriters who have participated in our festival.

A FESTIVAL FOR INSPIRING ARTISTS, STORIES AND STORYTELLERS

This three-day festival is organized by JAN HENDRIK VERSTRATEN and MASSIMO BARBATO who are themselves filmmakers and writers. They believe at the heart of every great film is a great story, one that will inspire an audience and hopefully help to shape culture in a positive way.

NRFF London has several categories for UK and International filmmakers and screenwriters, but very close to our hearts is the YOUNG TALENT AWARD. This is a special award for screenwriting and for short films that will be presented to young talent between the ages of 18-24.

We feel it is important to give those starting out in film a chance to discover their own unique voice and vision, as an artist, and to communicate with a larger audience.

NRFF LONDON 2017

2018 will be our third year in London, a city known for its diversity and innovation in the creative arts. We will screen around 120 narrative shorts, documentaries, animations and music videos over the course of the festival, finishing with an AWARDS CEREMONY.
Running alongside the festival will be a SCREENWRITING COMPETITION and a series of MASTERCLASSES by film industry experts, a filmmaker's PANEL DISCUSSION, Filmmaker Q&A's, and other networking opportunities.

THE UK FILM FESTIVAL LONDON SCRIPT COMPETITIONS 
Can you tell a screen story in 3 Minutes?

Do you have a 10 minute (or less) script you’re really excited about?

1) THE 3 MINUTE SCRIPT COMPETITION: 
We’re seeking micro-short scripts for possible production. 
As well as the associated publicity, the winning script will receive UK Film Festival Winner's Laurels and be considered for production. It should be noted that most years since the competition began the winning scripts have been produced and the resulting films have subsequently gone on to win film festivals around the world. The awards include two Crystal Bears for Best Short Film at the Berlin Film Festival in consecutive years as well Best of Festival at the Aesthetica Film Festival. One was short listed for a BAFTA. These films have been Official Selection in 31 other festivals and received prestigious distribution deals.

2) THE FEATURE SCRIPT COMPETITION: 
The UK Film Festival places their winning scripts with directors and producers. Our 3 previous feature winning scripts COTTONTAIL, THE CIRCLE and THE DOUBLE have all been optioned.

Shore Scripts is a screenwriting competition focused on discovering the best scripts from around the world. Our goal is to get scripts into the hands of the production companies and agents who can get them made.

Rules:

To help the environment, Shore Scripts only accepts electronic entries.

Writers from all countries are welcome to enter the Shore Scripts Screenwriting Competition. All scripts must be in English.

The script must be the writers original work. They must own all copyright. At no point will Shore Scripts ever have any rights over your work.

All ages are welcome.

Each writer, or writing team, may not have earned more than $30,000 (£24,000 approx.) in writing fees since 2010. Previous screenwriting cash awards do not count towards this total.

You may enter a newer draft of an already submitted script. There is a small additional fee. You may re-enter you script through the Shore Scripts Resubmission page.

If a script is optioned or purchased during the competition, then that script will no longer be eligible for the awards. The entry fee will not be refunded.

Scripts should be formatted at size 12 Courier.

The script file formats we accept for upload are: .PDF (preferred) Final Draft, MovieMagic, .RTF, .DOC, .TXT

We accept all genres.

The winners agree to allow Shore Scripts to use their name and script title on the website. This will be used to inform other contestants and the media of the results.

The decision of the judging panel is final. All judges and sponsors are immune from any competition disputes.

If we see fit, we can extend the final deadline of the competition.

Entrants understand that the concept and characters in your script may contain similar elements to projects being developed by any individual or company working with Shore Scripts; and that you will not attempt to claim against Shore Scripts, or their associates and judges, at any time.

STAND UP & PITCH offers five finalists, in two format categories, the opportunity to pitch their short- or long-form digital or TV concepts to a panel of senior development and production executives in a room filled with accredited attendees. Our partners in this program include the Independent Filmmaker Project (IFP), Tubefilter, CBC Comedy, Project 10, and Some Spider Studios. Executives that have participated in recent years came from NBC, Comedy Central, IFC, truTV, FX, TBS, Hulu, Adult Swim, Above Average, Big Breakfast, Bell Media, and CBC. Submissions are now being accepted until May 7.
